Vol. 542 No. 4

Written Answers. - Radiotherapy Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

147 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question Nos. 327 and 328 of 9 October 2001, he will outline his views on whether the recently announced abortion referendum will upset the timetable for policy development following the report of the expert groups on the development of radiotherapy services (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24749/01]

As advised in my reply to the parliamentary questions mentioned by the Deputy, the work of the expert group on the development of radiotherapy services is at an advanced stage. Because of the importance and complexity of the work, it is not possible to give an exact date for the report but it is anticipated that the work will be completed before the end of the year.

It is not anticipated that the referendum referred to by the Deputy will have any implications for the development of policy arising from the group's report.
