Vol. 542 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

203 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason persons (details supplied) in County Cork are not being accommodated on the national school bus to Glantane national school. [24734/01]

My Department has recently received a report regarding an extension of the school transport service for the pupil referred to by the Deputy. The family resides 1.1 miles from the route of the existing bus service, which is considered to be within current guidelines.

As a rule primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than 1.5 miles to travel to a school bus pick-up point. Home pick-ups were never envisaged as being part of the school transport scheme as the cost involved on a countrywide level would be prohibitive.

Question:

204 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if a report sought in Parliamentary Question No. 199 of 4 October 2001 has been prepared by Bus Éireann; and if progress has been made in this case. [24735/01]

My Department is awaiting a reply from Bus Éireann regarding this case. The Deputy will be advised of the position as soon as a report has been received and assessed.
