Question:

47 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Defence when he expects to publish the Ombudsman (Defence Forces) Bill; when he envisages that the Bill will be enacted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24447/01]

In July 2001, I obtained Government approval for the drafting of an Ombudsman Bill and the heads of Bill have been referred to the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to the Government. I will publish the draft Bill in early November and it will be enacted by the Oireachtas by Easter 2002.
