Vol. 542 No. 4

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

David Stanton

Question:

70 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has been refused permission to plant trees as part of an afforestation scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24721/01]

An application for grant aid for the afforestation of the area in question was refused on 12 October 2001 by my Department on the basis that most of the site lies within a national heritage area and planting in this area would not be compatible with the protection of the environment.
