Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

John Perry

Question:

299 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Sligo Rape Crisis Centre has provided a free confidential counselling service for survivors of sexual violence in the Sligo-Leitrim region for the past six years; when regular funding will be allocated; if the current method of funding is unsatisfactory; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25026/01]

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

309 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide annual core funding for the Sligo Rape Crisis Centre; and the reason it has taken over 11 months to make a decision on this issue. [25064/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 299 and 309 together.

The provision of services for victims of sexual violence in the North Western Health Board region is a matter, in the first instance, for the North Western Health Board. I have made substantial additional funding available to the health boards in 2001 for victims of sexual violence which should result in a considerable improvement to these services.
