Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

345 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will allocate appropriate funding to the Mid-Western Health Board in order that it can recruit specialist doctors, nurses and other professional staff necessary to establish a specialist breast unit at the Mid-West Regional Hospital in accordance with the national cancer strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25311/01]

Symptomatic breast disease services are being developed in line with the core recommendations of the report of the sub-committee of the national cancer forum on the development of symptomatic breast disease services. Funding for the development of specialist breast disease services in the Mid-Western Health Board is currently being considered in the context of the Estimates for 2002.
