Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Visitor Facilities.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

387 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will provide a timetable for the provision of visitor facilities at Castletown House, Celbridge, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24954/01]

As I informed the Deputy in reply to his question of 3 July 2001, proposals for the provision of visitor facilities are at a very early stage and it is not possible at this point in time to give a timetable for this major project. However, I can assure the Deputy that, notwithstanding the substantial funding which I have already provided for this project to date, I have ensured that Castletown will benefit from the funds allocated to me under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 which will, inter alia, enable my Department to press ahead with the provision of visitor facilities. I am confident that the proposed provision of visitor facilities will greatly enhance the attraction of this historical property as a tourism destination of significant importance.
