Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Austin Currie

Question:

439 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 312 of 10 April 2001, he has made a decision to proceed with the development of schools in the Adamstown and Griffeen-Foxborough areas of Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24923/01]

A final decision on the development of schools in the Adamstown and Griffeen-Foxborough areas of Lucan has not yet been taken by my Department. On foot of the draft area plan produced for Adamstown, my Department reserved two sites in the area, one for a primary school and one for a post primary school. A copy of the plan adopted by South Dublin County Council in July has not yet been received in my Department. However, I understand that the plan is being published and will be made available to my Department as soon as it is ready. I further understand that the detailed planning scheme for the area is currently in preparation. This detailed planning scheme and the adopted area plan together with details from South Dublin County Council concerning the rate, pace and likely time scale of housing developments will assist my Department considerably to determine what additional school provision is required in that area.

A site has also been reserved for a primary school in the Griffeen area. The matter of how best to provide accommodation for the area, by providing temporary accommodation in the short term and by the provision of a new school and/or extensions to existing schools in the area in the medium to long term is under active consideration in my Department at present.
