446 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the enrolments for each institute of technology for the academic year 2000-2001 or most recent years available; the numbers enrolled for third level programmes; the numbers enrolled for apprentices and certificate programmes; and the numbers enrolled for nursing and postgraduate courses for each college. Question:

447 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the criteria by which baseline funding is determined for institutes of technology; and if there is an approved level of fees for each category of student. [24966/01]

The annual budget for each institute is at present allocated on the basis of its pay and non-pay requirements following consideration of its annual programmes and budget submission, which is required under section 13 of the Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992, or section 14 of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992. The allocation takes into account the full circumstances of each institute, the range of courses and facilities offered to the students, the total number of students, both full-time and part-time, and the nature of the infrastructure. Decisions on the allocations also have regard to funding available, Government policy and the Department's priorities.

The approved level of fees for the academic year 2001-02 is as follows:
