156 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the number of motor vehicles registered each month to date in 2001; the vehicle registration tax generated; if there has been a noticeable slow down in registration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24831/01]

The figures for the net registration of new cars for 2001 to end September are as follows:

January	–	33,019
February	–	23,230
March	–	22,375
April	–	16,514
May	–	18,232
June	–	14,149
July	–	12,030
August	–	8,545
September	–	5,402.

The total net registrations to end September for the years 1999 to 2001 are as follows:

1999	–	158,394
2000	–	217,237
2001	–	153,496.

The net VRT receipts to end September for the years 1999 to 2001 are set out below:

1999	–	£544.5m (691.4)
2000	–	£732.4m (930)
2001	–	£584.3m (741.9)
