Vol. 542 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cashless Payment System.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

164 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance his proposals to ensure that employees of commercial semi-State bodies which do not opt for a cashless payroll system for the payment of wages and that are part of a superannuation scheme, are not paid a lesser pension than their colleagues who opt for the cashless payment system (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25613/01]

The Minister for Finance has no function in relation to day to day pay matters in commercial State bodies. The code of practice for governance of State bodies require the bodies to observe general Government pay policy. Accordingly, it is a matter for the semi-State body to determine the pay arrangements taking account of general pay policy. In the circumstances described by the Deputy individuals can opt or not, as the case may be, for these pay arrangements and the consequential impact on their pensions. I have no proposals in this area.
