Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Marine Rescue Service.

Michael Ring

Question:

171 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the lifeboat for Achill, County Mayo, will be delivered to the Coast Guard. [26589/01]

The director of the Coast Guard informs me that he intends to place a lifeboat with the Irish Coast Guard unit in Achill when their new station facility is completed next year. My Department is currently involved in discussions with Mayo County Council about the practicalities of sharing a new building on Achill with the fire brigade, thereby providing the Achill unit with a station facility capable of housing and maintaining an appropriate lifeboat. I understand that tender documents for this building are due to be issued shortly by Mayo County Council and that the building is due for completion in 2002.
