Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

John McGuinness

Question:

633 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if the works required at Clara Castle, County Kilkenny are completed; if the flooding caused by surface water from the road has been resolved; if the internal floors have been made safe; if consideration will be give to reroofing the property and establishing a local use for it; and if this suggestion will be explored with local community interests. [26459/01]

The works required to alleviate the flooding at Clara Castle are scheduled to take place shortly. There are no plans to carry out works to the internal floors at the castle nor are there plans to reroof the building. Such development work at Clara Castle is not provided for under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 and, without carrying out substantial refurbishment works, the building would not be suitable for local use. There are, therefore, no plans to explore this issue with local community interests.
