Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Spatial Strategy.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

107 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he expects to publish the Government's spatial plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26677/01]

In early September, based on extensive research into development trends in Ireland and taking account of wide-ranging consultations which had taken place at national, regional and local level, I launched a further phase in the public consultation process to refine the approach to the national spatial strategy and to frame the more detailed policies to be included in the strategy. To assist this stage of the consultation process, I published a public consultation paper, Indications for the Way Ahead, to stimulate debate and seek the widest possible range of views on the emerging indications as to how more balanced regional development might be achieved.

This phase in the consultation process has just ended, with a substantial number of submissions received. These responses will be carefully considered, following which proposals for inclusion in the strategy itself will be further developed, with a view to having the strategy submitted to the Government for its consideration by the end of the year.
