Vol. 543 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

John McGuinness

Question:

715 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will expedite payment of a lottery grant to Graiguecullen GAA Club, County Carlow; and if the documentation supplied by the club prior to 8 October 2001 is sufficient to draw down the grant. [26223/01]

Graiguecullen GAA club was provisionally allocated a grant of £15,000 – 19,046 – in 2000 under the sports capital programme administered by my Department. The grant was in respect of the development of playing pitches and floodlighting.

In order for this grant to be formally confirmed and a payment made, the club must submit the necessary documentation required under the programme. While some of the documentation required was submitted by the club in October 2001, my Department has recently advised the club of further outstanding documentation required.

Seamus Healy

Question:

716 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will make a sports grant available to Clonmel Rugby Club for the development of facilities at the club. [26224/01]

Under the national lottery-funded sports capital programme operated by my Department, grants are allocated to clubs and organisations for the development of sports and recreational facilities. The programme is advertised on an annual basis and in order to be considered for funding clubs have to submit an application form. The closing date for the receipt of completed application forms under this year's sports capital programme was 9 February 2001 and my Department has no record of receiving an application from Clonmel rugby club.

The sports capital programme 2002 will be advertised within the next few weeks and it will be open to Clonmel rugby club to submit an application for funding. All applications received will be considered on the basis of the assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. It should be noted, however, that the programme does not provide for the purchase of land.

Seamus Healy

Question:

717 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will make a grant available under the sports capital programme to the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre, Tipperary town. [26225/01]

Under the national lottery funded sports capital programme operated by my Department, grants are allocated to clubs and organisations for the development of sports and recreational facilities.

An application for funding was received from the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre under the 2001 sports capital programme. This application was assessed in accordance with the detailed criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following the assessment process the application was unsuccessful and this decision was conveyed by my Department to the organisation in a letter dated 13 June 2001.

The 2002 sports capital programme will be announced within the next few weeks and it will be open to the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre to make an application for funding. All applications received will be considered on the basis of the assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme.
