123 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the steps he intends to take to end the practice of members of Dáil Éireann also being members of local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26664/01]
The question of disqualifications from local authority membership has been recently reviewed by the Oireachtas and relevant provisions are set out in section 13 of the Local Government Act, 2001. The updated Government legislation programme – 28 September 2001 – contains no proposals for amendment of these provisions.
