Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

143 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the new sewerage systems for Water ford city, Dungarvan and Tramore; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27128/01]

These schemes have been approved for construction under my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002.

The first phase of the Waterford main drainage scheme, which involved the extension and upgrading of the collection system in the city, has been completed. I understand that Waterford Corporation has recently accepted a tender for the first of two site investigation contracts which are a necessary precursor to the preparation of contract documents for the second phase of the scheme. This phase involves the provision of a collection system for the south city area, transfer pipework from the city environs collection system and the new wastewater treatment plant.

I approved contract documents for the collection and delivery systems for the Tramore and Dungarvan schemes in August of this year and it is now a matter for Waterford County Council to advance these works to tender invitation stage. The wastewater treatment plants for both schemes will be procured as design-build-operate contracts for which tender documents are currently being prepared by the council.
