165 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the last day of receipt for applications for the students summer jobs scheme; the number of applications which were received; the number which were successful; the number which were unsuccessful; and the number which were refused on the basis that they were late applications. 166 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of applications for the student summer jobs scheme which were received after the closing date; and the number of late applications which were accepted. [27212/01]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 165 and 166 together.

The closing date for applications for the students summer jobs scheme was 29 June 2001. A total of 8,090 applications from students were received by the closing date, of which 6,081 students were approved while 2,009 were not eligible to participate in the scheme. A total of 306 applications were received after the closing date, 5 of which were subsequently accepted following review.
