Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

201 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason an inspection at his Department reduced the services of a resource teacher to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare without assessment or explanation; if he will review the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27231/01]

The level of resource teaching support being made available to the child in question is in line with that recommended by my Department's inspectorate following a review of the needs of the child in question and other children with special needs attending the school. Arising from this review, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has recently conveyed approval to the school in question to increase the level of special needs assistant cover available to this child. As a result of this development, the child will now have special needs assistant support on a full-time basis.
