Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

David Stanton

Question:

84 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 129 of 24 October 2001, approval has been sought by Iarnród Éireann to carry out a feasibility study into the re-opening of the east Cork rail link; if her Department will fund such a study; if not, if funding will be allocated from another source; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27039/01]

I understand Cork Corporation and Cork County Council have recently adapted the Cork area strategic plan. As a consequence, Iarnród Éireann is now in the process of finalising the terms of reference for a feasibility study on the potential for re-opening the rail line to Midleton and for developing rail services to Blarney. As soon as this has been done the project will be put out to tender by Iarnród Éireann who will also pay for it.
