Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Nursing Staff.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

111 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in implementing an agreement between the North-Eastern Health Board and Irish Nurses Organisation, that a number of nurses would be made permanent at Cavan General Hospital by the end of September 2001; and the reason this has not taken place. [27018/01]

I have been informed by the North-Eastern Health Board that it has proceeded with confined competitions for long-term temporary staff nurses. These competitions have been held in line with the national criteria in the phase I and phase II conversion process. The board has further agreed in principle to apply a phase III conversion process in line with the criteria used in phase II. It is currently identifying the number of vacancies in each hospital and will take due cognisance of those staff who have letters of comfort from the phase II process.
