90 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received a response from Bord Fáilte to the consultants report, Maximising Ireland's Potential in the International Conference Market; when it is expected that a decision will be made on a proposed conference centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27878/01]

David Stanton

Question:

226 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received, or when he expects to receive, Bord Fáilte's response to the report, Maximising Ireland's Potential in the International Conference Market; when this report was present to Bord Fáilte; if his response and the report itself will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28126/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 226 together.

I can confirm that the consultants, PricewaterhouseCoopers, presented their report entitled, Maximising Ireland's Potential in the International Conference Market, to Bord Fáilte Éireann in late August. I received Bord Fáilte Éireann's formal response to the report on 24 October. The report is now being considered by relevant Departments in the context of future policy in relation to the development of international conference business into Ireland. Decisions as to publication will be made once those deliberations are completed.

The Deputy should note that the report was specifically commissioned to facilitate consideration of the general issue of optimising Ireland's share of the international conference market of which physical conference infrastructure is but one component.

The report also deals with promotion and marketing of existing conference facilities.
