Vol. 544 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

138 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when he will make provisions for lights and repair work to Killamacologue pier and to deepen the channel of the pier; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28133/01]

Kilmackillogue pier is owned by Kerry County Council and therefore responsibility for any improvement or development works rests with the local authority in the first instance. In 2000 my Department provided funding of £60,838 towards a slipway, lifting gear and onshore storage area at Kilmackillogue pier. In 2001 a further £10,000 was approved for improvement works to the parking area at the pier.

Kerry County Council to date has not submitted proposals for additional development works at Kilmackillogue. Any proposals put forward will be assessed having regard to overall development needs and available funding.
