Vol. 544 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cancer Treatment Services.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

179 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the delivery of breast cancer services in the North-Western Health Board Area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28160/01]

Symptomatic breast disease services are being developed in line with the core recommendations of the report of the sub-committee of the National Cancer Forum on the development of symptomatic breast disease services. The North-Western Health Board has formulated detailed proposals in relation to the development of these services in its functional area. These proposals are currently under active consideration by my Department.

Funding for the development of specialist breast disease services in the North-Western Health Board is currently being considered in the context of the Estimates for 2002 and I would like to assure the Deputy that I will continue to work with the board to ensure a comprehensive and coherent approach to the development of symptomatic breast disease services in the region.
