Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Ring

Question:

253 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will ascertain from the Office of Public Works when work will commence to alleviate flooding in Fahy, Ballycroy and Westport, County Mayo; the amount of money allocated for this work; if the work has gone out to tender; and the person or group who has been allocated the work. [28527/01]

A report commissioned by the Office of Public Works recommended some measures for alleviation of flooding in this area. However, in view of the presence of a special area of conservation, SAC, at this site and the requirements which this would necessitate for further environmental studies and mitigating measures, it is considered that the proposed scheme is not economically viable and cannot be proceeded with.
