Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vehicle Registration Tax.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

271 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance when vehicle registration tax will be discontinued. [28845/01]

I have no plans to dispense with vehicle registration tax, VRT. It is an important source of revenue for the Exchequer, especially given this Government's strategy of reducing other taxes such as income tax and corporation tax. The yield from VRT in 2000 was £788.5 million – 1,001.19 million.
