Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Insurance Code.

Richard Bruton

Question:

276 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if changes in the income ceiling for social insurance have been factored into the Estimates for employers, employees and for the self-employed; and the ceilings which will apply during 2002 in each case. [29065/01]

In Budget 2001, I announced the abolition of the PRSI contribution ceiling for both employers and the self-employed, consequently there is no contribution ceiling for both groups in 2002. The recently published Estimates for Public Services (Abridged Version) and Summary Public Capital Programme for 2002 reflects this fact. The employee PRSI contribution ceiling currently applied is £28,250, 35,870. The published Abridged Estimates Volume for 2002 reflects an increase in the employee ceiling in line with projected wage increases. The figure used is £30,500, 38,727.
