Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Community Welfare Vacancies.

Nora Owen

Question:

283 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the filling of vacancies that exist in the community welfare system giving rise to cancellations of clinics in some areas of the Northern Area Health Board region; and if he will arrange for staff to be provided where there are vacancies or people out on long-term illness. [28456/01]

Responsibility for the employment and assigning of community welfare officers rests with the chief executive officer of the health board in consultation with the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply to her directly.
