Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pharmacy Regulations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

310 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will introduce the amended pharmacy regulations. [28693/01]

Following the recent publication of the OECD report, Regulatory Reform in Ireland, the Government promised a review of the Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996. A pharmacy review group has been set up by my Department to conduct this review and examine the pharmacy aspect of the OECD report. The group held its first meeting on 2 November last and it has invited submissions from the public on issues relevant to its terms of reference.

A high level group on regulation has also been established by the Government in response to the OECD report. This group will oversee an action programme and the review of the pharmacy regulations forms part of this programme. It is not possible at this point to say when the pharmacy review group will complete its task.
