Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

355 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he intends to withdraw funding from the NDP loans programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28724/01]

The Abridged Estimates Volume published on 15 November provides for Exchequer funding of over 960 million in 2002 for the roads development programme. This is an increase of almost 77 million on the provision for 2001. The Minister for Finance has also indicated that he will be bringing forward additional measures to support NDP infrastructure programmes in the forthcoming budget. The provision for 2002 will therefore ensure continuing progress in the upgrading of the national road network.

The programming of the planning, design and implementation of individual national road improvement projects is the responsibility of the National Roads Authority in conjunction with the local authorities concerned.
