Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

John Ellis

Question:

409 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if her Department will arrange for payment of compensation to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim for the acquisition of land as part of the Shannon-Erne scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29020/01]

The issue raised by the Deputy, in relation to acquisition of land on the Shannon-Erne waterway, is the day-to-day responsibility of Waterways Ireland, a North-South Implementation Body for inland waterways, set up under the Good Friday Agreement signed in March 1999.

Waterways Ireland informs me, however, that it too, is anxious to bring this matter to resolution. I understand it is making arrangements to meet with the person concerned in an effort to finalise the compensation issue.
