Vol. 544 No. 5

Written Answers. - Foreign Conflicts.

John Gormley

Question:

26 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the US Government had taken up his offer of air transit and airport facilities to facilitate the US war effort in Afghanistan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29170/01]

During my meeting on 26 September last with US Secretary of State Colin Powell, I formally conveyed the Government's offer of overflight and landing facilities in the State. In doing so, Ireland is fulfilling its responsibilities under UN Security Council Resolution 1368, as reinforced by Resolution 1373 of 28 September. Secretary Powell expressed his appreciation for Ireland's solidarity and support. Details of usage of transit and landing facilities have been communicated to the Deputy in response to previous questions.
