Question:

131 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a new house grant payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; the reason for the delay in re-assessing the original decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30136/01]

A new house grant is payable to a first time purchaser of a new house who fulfils the conditions of the grants scheme which require, inter alia, that the applicant occupies the dwelling on completion as their normal place of residence. Despite numerous attempts by inspectors of my Department, by notification of appointment, letter, telephone calls and visits, they were unable to meet with the applicant at the house. It is open to the applicant to contact the Department with a view to meeting with an inspector and having the matter further considered.
