Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Environmental Education.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

292 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the funding which is available from his Department for environmental education; and his proposals for the future in this regard. [30561/01]

In 2001, my Department provided funding of £2.889 million for a range of environmental information and awareness activities, including the national environmental awareness campaign; the local environment partnership fund; ENFO – the environmental information service; litter awareness; national spring clean campaign; European blue flags for beaches and marinas awards; and the Tidy Towns competition.

Environmental education is supported through the operation of ENFO, and through the above activities including in particular environment partnership fund projects. Details of the overall funding available from my Department for environmental awareness and promotion activities in 2002 are set out in the abridged Estimates published recently. Decisions have not yet been taken on the final detailed provisions for each activity.

Question No. 293 answered with Question No. 281.
