Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Dan Neville

Question:

428 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding for St. Anne's primary school, Rathkeale, County Limerick for a child care assistant in the pre-school. [30854/01]

In June of this year my Department approved a range of additional supports for the school in question. These included the allocation of two additional resource teacher posts, one learning support teacher post and three special needs assistant posts.

I have asked my Department to investigate the school's need for further special needs assistant support as identified by the Deputy. As soon as this investigation has been completed, my Department will be in contact with the school authorities.

Michael Ring

Question:

429 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when special needs assistants in sec ondary schools will receive salary increases given to special needs assistants at primary level which were awarded on 1 October 2001. [30864/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the relevant circular letter, authorising the authorities of second level schools to pay the revised rates of pay effective from 1 October 2001 to special needs assistants, was issued recently.
