Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Private Rented Accommodation.

Question:

159 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans to renew the protection afforded by the Housing (Private Rented Dwellings) Act, 1982; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31050/01]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 77, 102 and 132 of 6 November 2001. The development of action, as indicated in this reply, to support the situation of low income successor tenants is continuing in consultation with the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, and I intend to bring proposals to Government shortly in the matter. Landlords and tenants affected will be advised of their rights in good time before the changes are due to take effect.
