Vol. 545 No. 5

Written Answers. - Radio Broadcasting.

Question:

165 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans which are in place for the future of the only long wave transmitter here; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [31026/01]

I presume the Deputy is referring to Atlantic 252 the long wave station in which RTE has held a 20% stake for some time. There was a change in the ownership of the majority shareholding in the station recently. I understand from RTE that the service is to continue with a different programme format. The licensing of the long wave frequency 252 is a matter primarily for the office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation.
