On 2 October I established the Crisis Pregnancy Agency under the provisions of the Health (Corporate Bodies) Act, 1961. I have appointed the board of the agency and its members are: Ms Olive Braiden, Chairperson, Ms Rosemary Grant, Ms Linda Hogan, Mr. Martin Larkin, Ms Geraldine Luddy, Ms Pauline Moreau, Mr. Brian Mullen, Mr. Anthony O'Gorman and Ms Margaret Ryan.

The board's first meeting is due to be held tomorrow, 6 December. A sum of £6.5 million has been provided for the agency in the 2002 Estimates.

Two members of my Department's staff have been seconded to assist the chairperson in putting in place all of the elements necessary for the agency to become fully operational. An office premises has been selected and work to prepare this for occupancy is under way.
