Treaty of Amsterdam: Motion.

I move:

That the proposal that Dáil Éireann approve the exercise by the State of the option, provided for by Article 3 of the fourth Protocol to the Treaty of Amsterdam, to notify the President of the Council that it wishes to take part in the adoption and application of the following proposed measure:

the proposal for a Council Directive on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purpose of paid employment and self-employed economic activities,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 22nd November, 2001, be referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights, in accordance with paragraph (2)(a)(vi) of the Orders of Reference of that Committee, which shall, not later than 12th December, 2001, send a message to the Dáil in the manner prescribed in Standing Order 79B, and Standing Order 79A(2) shall accordingly apply.
