Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

315 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress regarding the provision of the extra facilities identified as being required at Scoil an Linbh Íosa, Prosperous, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32417/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that architectural planning is under way for a building project at the school in question. It is not possible at this stage to state exactly when the project will go on site.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

316 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Edu and Science Science the position regarding his review of primary and secondary educational requirements in Naas, County Kildare; the position regarding the provision of the extra facilities required at each of the schools involved; when he expects these facilities to be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32418/01]

At primary level the position is that, in Naas, a new 16 teacher school is currently in architectural planning. The original brief for this project is being reviewed in light of additional housing developments in the area and consequential increased demand for primary school places. At post-primary level, the position is that, following an evaluation of post-primary school requirements in the area, building projects were approved for all three schools in the centre. The current status of these building projects is that the extension and refurbishment programme at St. Mary's college has been completed, while the building programme for Meánscoil Iognáid Rís is in architectural planning. The need to extend and refurbish St. Patrick's post-primary school has been agreed in principle with the school's management authority, County Kildare Vocational Education Committee. Further information is awaited from the VEC before this project can be progressed. The overall school accommodation requirements in Naas will be kept under regular review in the planning and building unit of my Department.
