Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Paramilitary Organisations.

Willie Penrose

Question:

39 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if statistics have been compiled by the Garda of persons who may have been forced to leave the country under threat of death or injury by paramilitary organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32093/01]

In my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 145 of 13 November 2001, I mentioned that there were no statistics in this matter available and that the Garda Síochána were reviewing the extent of available information. I am now advised by the Garda authorities that for the period 1997 to 15 November 2001 they have not received any reports or complaints from persons alleging their forced departure from this jurisdiction under threat of death or injury by paramilitary organisations.
