Question:

214 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the amount which was spent in her Department from June 1997 to December 2001 for media purposes and-or advertising; the way in which the money was spent (details supplied); the amount spent on a year to year basis; and the money which was spent on videos. [2026/02]

Expenditure by my Department for media purposes and advertising from June 1997 to 2001 is as follows:

Of total expenditure incurred during 1999 the Telecom Éireann IPO accounted for the following:

2.Aer Lingus IPO
Of total expenditure in 2000 and 2001, the Aer Lingus IPO accounted for:

Newspapers–

25,489,£20,074 – 2001

These amounts refer to preparatory work undertaken by advertising consultants in relation to the advertising campaign planned for the Aer Lingus IPO.
3.Expenditure of 71,387, £56,222, was incurred in 2001 on newspaper advertising for the National Emergency Plan.
4.Irish Energy Centre
Advertising by the Irish Energy Centre from June 1997 to December 2001 accounted for the following expenditure:
Newspapers– 559,460, £440,611
Television– 698,090, £549,791
Radio– 255,480, £201,207
5.Videos
An office safety essential video was purchased in 1997 at a cost of 307, £242. Expenditure of 7,682, £6,050, was incurred in 1998 on the design and production of a Met Éireann promotional video. Expenditure on videos by the Irish Energy Centre from June 1997 to December 2001 was 15,620, £12,302. The videos were for promotional purposes.
