Question:

342 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will provide a milk quota under the hardship scheme for a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [2193/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 278 and 342 together.

The allocation of milk quota from the national reserve is granted on the basis of recommendations from the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider and advise on applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered extreme hardship as a result of the milk quota system.

The person in question has submitted an application for additional quota on the grounds of hardship, and his application has been received in my Department. The tribunal will examine his application in the near future and he will be notified of the outcome in due course.
