Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Aids.

Bernard Allen

Question:

464 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will investigate a case (details supplied); the reason the health board refuses to recycle brand new unused equipment such as an unused stair lift; and his views on whether this is widespread in the health board system. [1061/02]

The provision of technical aids and appliances is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy, as a matter of urgency. My Department is currently reviewing current policy in relation to best practices for the provision of aids and appliances. The health boards will be informed of these best practices when the review is complete.
