Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Billy Timmins

Question:

66 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his plans to sanction proposals for swimming pools at Bray and Greystones, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2571/02]

Bray Town Council submitted two applications under the swimming pool programme, a proposal for a new pool in Bray and a refurbishment proposal from Presentation College, Bray. Wicklow County Council also submitted a proposal for a new pool in Greystones. To facilitate my Department's assessment of these three applications, the local authority had been requested to indicate its priority requirement in the context of the best way to meet the swimming pool needs of the north Wicklow area in a viable and sustainable manner. Bray Town Council prioritised a new pool in Bray and the refurbishment proposal from Presentation College has been withdrawn. The two remaining applications are under consideration by my Department in consultation with the Office of Public Works, our technical advisers.

Question No. 67 answered with Question No. 43.
