Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Building Work.

Question:

712 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reforms he will consider for the quality of building work on extensions to private homes. [1108/02]

The national building regulations already prescribe construction standards for buildings, including extensions to dwellings. The regulations were introduced under the Building Control Act, 1990, and are operative since 1 June 1992. The regulations are subject to review where considered necessary, in consultation with the building regulations advisory body.

My Department has no function in relation to consumer complaints arising from building work on house extensions. Such complaints may appropriately be taken up with the Director of Consumer Affairs.
