Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Bodies.

Question:

913 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 354 of 4 December 2001, he will outline the conclusions reached by the sub-committee referred to in his answer in relation to the issue of trespass; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1110/02]

In June 1998, I established a committee to monitor and co-ordinate the implementation of the recommendations of the task force on the travelling community. The committee, which is chaired by my Department, is representative of Traveller interests, social partners and relevant Government Departments. At my request the issue of trespass by Traveller dealers and traders was discussed at the meeting of the committee in October last, and a sub-group of the committee was established to consider the matter more closely. The sub-group has had four meetings to date and a further meeting is scheduled to take place early next month. I understand that the work of the sub-group is at an advanced stage and will be finalised in the near future.
