Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John Browne

Question:

1292 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the permission to redevelop the Tullow community school was withdrawn. [2280/02]

The allocation for post-primary buildings in 2002 is 182.31 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the infrastructural needs in post primary schools.

Due to the greatly increased level of investment in the post primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

My Department's post-primary buildings unit has agreed in principle to the redevelopment of Tullow community school, County Carlow. All the options for the delivery of modern classroom accommodation will be considered following the appointment of a design team to commence architectural planning for this major building project.
