Vol. 548 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

93 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when per sons (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a ewe premium payment for 1998; and if there is a way in which payment could issue without delay. [3983/02]

Under the 1998 ewe premium scheme the person named applied on 148 ewes. Following an inspection of his flock, 80 ewes were found at locations not declared on his application form. As there was no record of prior written notification on the file regarding the movement of these sheep as required under the terms and conditions of the scheme, he was notified by the district superintendent that the penalty was the loss of all premium. The person named appealed this decision by the district inspector but it was rejected. He subsequently submitted an appeal to the appeals unit in Agriculture House which upheld the original decision made. I am making arrangements to have the case re-examined and my Department will be in touch with the person concerned as soon as the re-examination has been completed.
