Vol. 548 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John McGuinness

Question:

433 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of an application for a school extension at Clinstown national school, County Kilkenny; the stage the application is at within the process; when a decision is expected; and if funds are available for the project. [4365/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

Clinstown national school, County Kilkenny, is being extended and refurbished as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architectural planning. The project will continue to the preparation of tender documents and the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

434 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress which has been made to assist the Dublin 7 Educate Together national school to find a suitable site for a permanent school; if a location on the Department of Health and Children lands at Grangegorman Dublin 7 is being considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4366/02]

The possibility of providing a site for Dublin 7 Educate Together national school at Grangegorman is under active consideration and my Department will keep the school authorities informed of developments.
